Speaking Volumes give grants to any local library which lends out books or DVDs, and to groups and individuals whanting to donate titles for those bookshelves. The grants are awarded by the Christian Book Promotion Trust - an endowed trust set up by Cecil Jackson-Cole, philanthropist and founder of Oxfam, ActionAid and other well known charities. After his wife died, he could find no other literature to help him in his bereavement - so he decided to make Christian literature widely accessible to everyone.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR A GRANT?
Anyone, whether you're a public library, school, prison, hospice or church. You could be an individual or a group who want to make a gift of the books to a library in your community. All that is required is that the books and DVDs are placed somewhere they can be borrowed and enjoyed. This can be in your community or overseas.
Grants of up to £1000 per library. Talk to your chosen library to find out what they need. You can apply for more than one library at a time.
WHAT KIND OF BOOKS WILL BE FUNDED?
- lots of Christian books and DVDs available, from many different publishers
- suitable for all ages and reading abilities
- many different topics (eg bereavement, prayer, Bible understanding) and types (eg novels, biographies and children's books)
- specially selected by experts for their eays-to-understand style.
Where possible, buy your books from your local Christian bookshop. In Newton Abbot, this is Choice Words!
